How to Setup/Register

  • How do I sign in or register when I am using the Storia app on my device?

    To read and purchase eBooks for Storia on the device that you have, simply launch the app and in the "Sign In to Storia" window, enter the same e-mail address and password you use for your scholastic.com and/or Scholastic Reading Club account(s).

    Don't have a Storia account?

    • Windows® PC or Android tablet users:Click on the "Register Now" link link in the Sign In window to be automatically re-directed to the Scholastic website on your browser, where you can create your account.
    • iPad® or or Kindle® Fire users:Exit the Storia app and go to the Scholastic website on your browser, where you can create your account.
    • Or choose one the following options:

  • What should I do if I forgot the password for my account?

    At Sign In, select the "Forgot Password?" link if available, or go to scholastic.com and look for the "Forgot Password?" link there.

  • How do I get the Storia eReading app?

    To install Storia on your device, first choose a platform.

  • On what types of devices can the Storia eReading app be used?

    Currently, Storia is available for:

    • Windows® PC [Windows 7+, XP SP3+, Vista® SP1+, Server 2003 SP2+, Server 2008+]
    • iPad® [iPad 1, iPad 2, iPad 3, iPad 4, and iPad Mini; Operating systems: iOS 4.3+, 5.0+, 6.0+ ]

  • Are Storia eBooks compatible with other e-readers?

    Storia eBooks are designed with unique learning features and enrichments that make them readable only while using the Storia eReading app.

    The Storia eReading app can be used with Windows® PC, iPad®, Kindle®Fire and select Androidtablets® OS.

    To install Storia on your device, choose a platform.

  • I want to use Storia on my Windows® PC. What are the tech requirements for downloading and reading Storia eBooks?
    • Windows 7+, XP SP3+, Vista® SP1+, Server 2003 SP2+, Server 2008+
    • 1024 x 768 screen resolution or higher required.
    • Minimum: x86 or x64 (64-bit mode support for IE only) 1.6-gigahertz (GHz) or higher processor with 512 MB of RAM, 1.5 GB free disc space
    • Other free software installations (PlayReady and Silverlight) will be prompted and installed during the eReader installation.
  • How do I link a device with my Scholastic account?

    Each time your child or student launches Storia on a device connected to the Internet, it syncs with your Scholastic account online. Any new eBooks purchased will be downloaded, and any new assigned eBooks will appear in the appropriate bookshelf, allowing the child/student to start reading as soon as they want. When you install Storia on multiple devices, readers can access their eBooks and bookshelves from all of them.

  • How do I sync my Storia account across multiple devices?

    Each of your devices with the Storia app syncs with your account so that your children/students can access their eBooks and bookshelves from all devices.

    Installing Storia on multiple devices is easy. Simply go to the download page, or click the "Download Now. FREE." button at the top of this page. Then select the device you'd like to install Storia on. Soon you'll be all set to go!

    You can register up to 40 devices per a single account. Registering a device for Storia is simple—all you have to do is sign in to the eReading app with the e-mail address and password used for your Scholastic account.

    If you reach the 40-device limit and need to register another device, it's easy to deregister one of your devices. Simply go to the home screen within your Storia account and click on the red button for your account's designated Reading Manager. Choose Additional Settings within the Reading Manager sign-in window, click on Deregister Device, and follow the sign-in instructions.

    You can also manage your devices from within the Reading Manager by selecting Settings.

  • I'm having problems installing Storia. What should I do?
    Windows® PC:

    Make sure your computer meets the following system requirements:

    • Windows 7+, XP SP3+, Vista® SP1+, Server 2003 SP2+, Server 2008+
    • 1024 x 768 screen resolution or higher required.
    • Minimum: x86 or x64 (64-bit mode support for IE only) 1.6-gigahertz (GHz) or higher processor with 512 MB of RAM, 1.5 GB free disc space
    • Other free software installations (PlayReady and Silverlight) will be prompted and installed during the eReader installation.

    Make sure you have administrator rights:

    If you try to install the application without having administrator rights, you will get an error message.

    Follow the steps below to check whether you have administrator rights:

    • Right-click on the "Start" button. This can usually be found in the bottom left-hand corner of your screen. If the menu that appears contains the items Open All Users and Explore All Users, you have administrator rights.
    • If the menu does not contain those items, then you do not have administrator rights, and you will not be able to install the Storia eReading app. Please ask the computer's owner or its administrator to help you install Storia.

    If you are having difficulty downloading the Storia eReading app to your PC, here are some troubleshooting tips:

    • Make sure you have a connection to the Internet before downloading the Storia eReading app.
    • Select the correct Storia eReading app download link for Windows PC.
    • Ensure you accept all EULAs (End User License Agreements) and install the prerequisite applications—PlayReady and Silverlight. These applications are bundled with the Storia installer for one easy installation.
    • Check your desktop screen to see if the Storia icon has appeared. If so, double-click on the Storia icon to launch the installer.

    iPad®:

    If you are having trouble with installing Storia on your iPad, you should:

    Make sure you have enough free space:

    • If you have run out of space, please uninstall unused apps, or delete some of your music or videos from your iPad.
    • To find out what apps are taking up space on your iPad, select the "Settings" icon on the iPad, and then select Usage.

    Enter your iTunes password when downloading from the App Store:

    Even though the Storia eReading app is FREE, you must still input your iTunes password when downloading the app to your iPad. If you don't have your iTunes password, ask the owner or administrator of the iPad to install Storia for you.

    Kindle® Fire:

    If you are having trouble installing Storia on your Kindle Fire tablet, you should:

    Make sure you have enough free space:

    • If you have run out of space, please uninstall unused apps, or delete some of your music or videos from your Kindle Fire tablet.
    • To find out what apps are taking up space on your Kindle Fire tablet, select the "Settings" icon on your tablet, followed by Device, and then select Storage.

    If you are still having problems installing Storia on your Kindle Fire tablet, please contact Customer Service at 1-855-STORIA1 (1-855-786-7421) or storia@scholastic.com.

    Android Tablet:

    If you are having trouble with installing Storia on your Android tablet, you should:

    Make sure you have enough free space:

    • If you have run out of space, please uninstall unused apps, or delete some of your music or videos from your Android tablet.
    • To find out what apps are taking up space on your tablet, select the "Settings" icon on the tablet, and then select Usage.

    Enter your Google password when downloading from Google Play:

    Even though the Storia eReading app is FREE, you must still input your Google password when downloading the app to your tablet. If you don't have your Google password, ask the owner or administrator of the tablet to install Storia for you.

How to Shop

  • How do I purchase Storia eBooks?

    Buying Storia eBooks for your child or student is easy. Just click on Shop eBooks on the top of this page. Use the e-mail address and password for your Scholastic account to purchase Storia eBooks. If you don't have an account, register here.

    If you are a Scholastic Reading Club member, you can access eBooks through your available online catalogs. As always with Reading Club purchases, each eBook you buy will contribute to your classroom.

    Once you find the book you want to purchase:

    1. Click on the eBook you want.
    2. Then click the "Buy eBook" button next to the eBook.
    3. On the next pop-up layer, click the "Complete eBook Purchase" button.
    4. Assign the new eBook to a child's or student's bookshelf, and they will be ready to read!

    You will be given an opportunity to charge the Storia eBook to a credit card that you have saved, or you may choose to use another credit card.

  • Are Storia eBooks identical to the printed versions?

    Storia eBooks are identical to their printed versions in every way, from typesetting to illustration. However, in addition to the built-in features of reading with Storia, such as an age-appropriate dictionary, many Storia eBooks offer highlighter and note-taking functions as well as engaging optional Read-to-Me narration.

  • Can my child/student use Storia if they have not yet learned to read?

    Yes! Storia's Read-to-Me eBooks offer engaging narration complete with music and sound effects that your child/student can listen to while following highlighted text.

  • What are the special features of Storia eBooks?

    All Storia eBooks include an age-appropriate dictionary that instantly provides definitions using text, images, and optional Read-to-Me narration. Other standard features can include highlighter and note-taking functions.

  • Can my child/student purchase Storia eBooks by themselves?

    While Storia is designed especially for children's reading enjoyment, parents and teachers stay in control of all eBook purchases. With Storia, you never have to worry about a child/student ordering eBooks without your knowledge or consent.

    A child/student can add Storia eBooks to his or her own Wish List, which parents and teachers can easily view:

    1. Sign in to the Reading Manager to access the "Assign eBooks to Bookshelves" page.

    2. Click the name of a child or student from the left sidebar and then select Recommendations. You'll also find their personal Wish List under the recommended titles, where you can click on eBook Info to learn more about each title listed.

How to Manage eBooks

  • What is a Storia bookshelf?

    A bookshelf is where all newly purchased Storia eBooks are assigned, stored, and read. In order for a child/student to read a Storia eBook, he or she must first find the eBook on the bookshelf designated for them by a parent or teacher.

    Currently, each Storia account allows up to 40 individual bookshelves.

  • How do I create a bookshelf in Storia?

    Sign in to the Reading Manager and then select + Add Bookshelves at the bottom of the left sidebar. From here, you can choose how many bookshelves you want to create and then personalize each with the name and age of the child/student to whom you're assigning the bookshelf. You can further customize each bookshelf by choosing from the optional settings.

  • How do I assign Storia eBooks to bookshelves?

    Once you've set up your bookshelves after signing in to the Reading Manager, choose the eBook title you wish to assign from the list you find on the "Assign eBooks to Bookshelves" page.

    Go to the drop-down menu listed with the title of your choice and select the name of the child/student for whom you want to assign the eBook. Once assigned to an individual bookshelf, every eBook can be reassigned to another simply by selecting another name from the drop-down menu listed with the title.

  • How can I track my child's/student's reading in Storia?

    Sign in to the Reading Manager, and look for the name of the child or student in the left sidebar.
    Click on the name to choose one of the following options:

    1. Reading Reports
    Storia Reading Reports show a detailed summary of your child's/student's reading habits by week, month, or year, beginning with a snapshot of the time they've spent reading, the number of eBooks they've read, and the number of vocabulary words they've looked up.

    • The last five eBooks read, with eBook listings featuring reading level and hours and minutes spent reading
    • Up to 25 of the words most recently looked up in the Storia Dictionary
    • Bar graph showing monthly reading progress, with both Guided Reading levels and Lexile® measures
    • Reading log listing every eBook read on Storia

    Here you'll find detailed specifics about each eBook on a bookshelf, including the time spent reading and the activities completed.

  • I bought a Storia eBook, but I can't find it on any of my bookshelves. Where do I find my new Storia eBook?

    After you purchase your Storia eBook, it is delivered directly to your Storia account. Sign in to the Reading Manager, and you'll find every eBook in your account listed on the "Assign eBooks to Bookshelves" page. Depending on your account settings, the newly purchased eBook will appear as an "Unassigned" title or be automatically added to one of your existing bookshelves.

    Once you find the new Storia eBook, you can assign it to the bookshelf of your choosing. Go to the drop-down menu listed with the title and select the name of the child/student for whom you wish to assign the eBook. Once assigned to an individual bookshelf, every eBook can be reassigned to another simply by selecting another name from the drop-down menu listed with the title.
